Post subject: | Installations fails on several hard drives |
Hi all, since I just received my new Epia mainboard the urge to install Knoppmyth returned. However, it turned into quite a problem. So, what's the problem? Everytime I try to install KM and when the cd tries to format my hard drive, this error pops up: "Error: formatting of /dev/hda1 failed. Some messages from mkfs.ext3: mk2fs 1.40-WIP (14-nov-2006) mkfs.ext3: no such device or address while trying to determine filesystem size". I have several 2.5" drives and tried them all. All of them were connected with a 2.5" to 3.5" convertor cable. A media test was also performed which ensured that the cd was OK. I'm very certain that at least one of them (since that one comes directly from my laptop) has to work. Anyone got a clue? |

What method of installation are you doing (auto or manual)? Is the drive you are attempting to install on HDA or SDA? Auto install will only work on those two... |

Hi, Some of those little drives need a jumper to set for master. It is also a little jumper so may have trouble finding one to fit. Also ensure that it is connected to the primary. I have an EPIA running on a Seagate 2.5" 100gig which makes for a very quiet package. Check your cmos settings, cable, and maybe need a jumper. Mine defaults to master without the jumper but ymmv. While that is correct, we've also seen cases (especially on Western Digital drives) where the install failed unless the drive was set to Cable Select. |
