Hi

I am trying to put together a HTPC and knoppmyth caught my attention. I downloaded the newest version R50E. Burned it to CD and booted from it.

Now I get a couple of error messages during bootup. Sorry they are not more precise but I am not sitting at my box atm.

"PCI: not using MMCONFIG or somesuch"
and
"udev hot-plug detection : failed".

Now the installer gives some kind of progress bar that advances (No install menu has appeared yet) and after that progress bar says DONE everything just hangs.

What just happened? :)

I am a total newb to Linux but quite computer savy on the big scale.

Hardware list:

MB: MSI K9N SLI-2F
RAM: 512mb DDRII
Gfx: MSI NX7300GS 256 mb ram (nvidia with HDMI and HDCP)
HD: Maxtor 250GB SATA
CPU: AMD Sempron 3400+
TV-Card: Hauupage PVR-500MCE (2 analog tuners)
CD: Old Asus CD-RW Burner.

Any clues to where I should start looking for a solution other than here on the forum? :)

I have searched a lot of posts here but y'all seem to get the initial install menu (which I don't) so I thought it prudent to make a post of my own.

I tried doing a knoppmyth failsafe install at that seemed to work but of course it didn't detect any hardware and first reboot resulted in the system just hanging again.

Here's hoping for advice

I have a very similar problem. The booting from the CD hangs at different points during the init. However I can never choose what to do. The only thing I do is type "tv" and hit enter. It mostly hangs during "searching for partitions.. init /etc/fstab/" or something like that.

Also using R50E. I'm using A7S333, Athlon XP 2400+, ATI Radeon 9550 and PVR-350.

I just tried installing the R5D1 release and it worked fine. I haven't gone all the way through the installation process yet but at least it work fine up until the point where it asked me to remove the CD and reboot.

What's the major differences between R5D1 and R5E50 in these aspects?

You may get some relief using the "noscsi" or "expert" boot options.

Thank you for your reply. However I have tried just about anything and no matter what I do it always hangs at the "autoconfiguring devices" progress bar. It says "Done" and it really means it. It won't budge from then on and I have yet to see the install menu.

I fear it is a bios problem and as of yet have no idea how to solve it. I have tried a "knoppmyth failsafe" install which finishes very fast but then hangs on reboot.

So far .. no love from knoppmyth for me :(
