I have a AMD Sempron 3200 with 384 Megs and an onboard Geoforce 6 video but no tuner card installed. I installed KnoppMyth R5E50 using Auto Install, but when I reboot, I first get the message:

KnoppMyth found no multimedia video cards :(

and then finally starts spitting out the message every five minutes:

INIT: Id "c7" respawning too fast; disabled for 5 minutes.

Is this occurring because I have no Tuner card Installed or is this a problem with the onboard Video?

The funny thing is on the first boot with the CD it see's the video card.

:(

No tuner card being found has nothing to do with the error. It is related to an error with the video card. Did the nvidia driver get installed upon first reboot?

I am not sure if it did or not the last couple of messages on the consul say

Starting MythTV Server : mythtvbackend
Checking periodic command scheduler : crond
Checking Nvidia video driver installation

Then the screen flashes 5 times and then the consul reads

INIT: Id "c7" respawning too fast; disabled for 5 minutes.

So it does not appear that the driver is getting installed. How would I check?

The "KnoppMyth found no multimedia video cards" message simply means you have no tuner cards in your system, which is a proper message for your setup.

You're getting the "Id 'c7' respawning" error probably because you have an improper xorg.conf file, and X is starting and immediately quitting. Edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf and check for the following:

Code:
Section "Device"
   ...
   Driver "nvidia"
   ...
EndSection

You could replace
Code:
   Driver "nvidia"

with
Code:
   Driver "vesa"

just to get you started to test the rest of your configuration, but running the VESA driver is going to make you very unhappy when you try to watch TV. :-)

If the Driver lines says something other than "nvidia," then that is your problem. If it says "nvidia" and X is not starting for you, then the driver is not installed/installing properly.

Holler if you need more help. FWIW, I have installed and run KnoppMyth on that very motherboard...I don't recall any odd problems; certainly not like the one you're describing. I definitely am interested to learn why you're having difficulty.

Okay I checked /etc/X11/xorg.conf and it is set up as you describe with nvidia as the driver. I went ahead and replaced it with vesa and the install script ran fine but the system is unusable with that driver plus I have no sound. I am redownloading the iso even tho it did pass the cd check.

If it's not a bad CD how would I check out if the driver is not installed/installing properly?

Did you have to do anything special in the bios?

I have reflashed to the newest bios and upped the available memory to the video from 128 to 256 but it has not made any difference.

As root, run
Code:
alsaconf
Some folks have reported success w/ that motherboard, other have to run the above to get sound working. You may even have to modify /etc/init.d/sound after running the above. Search for more info. As for you video, nothing I can think of at the moment...
