Post subject:  R5E50: mythfrontend on slave box seg faults - SOLVED

New installation of R5E50. Master box works fine, having problems with
remote box. There are two big problems with the remote box.

1. Remote box cannot play recorded TV shows even though
it can show the menu of programs, and shows the animated thumbnail.
Trying to play video just results in screen briefly flashing black, then
return to menu of programs.

The remote box can view videos (using mplayer via mythfrontend menus)
and can play music (again, using mythfrontend).

2. Trying to view TV schedule ("Manage Recordings",
"Schedule Recordings", "Program Guide" results in instant crash of
mythfrontend.

No error messages in /var/log/mythtv on slave box.
When I run mythfrontend from the command line of an xterm, I get:
<date & time> Connecting to backend server: <ip address:6543> (try 1 of 5)
<date & time> Using protocol version 31
Segmentation fault

Help! How can I debug this?

Thanks,
Bill

Post subject:  R5E50 segfault FIXED.

I didn't have the remote unit connecting to the database on the
master unit, so mythfrontend on the slave would crash when there
were no programs in the grid. Or something like that. Clue was
to run mythfrontend from an xterm, and look at the messages.
Despite my claim below, there were other messages complaining
about the program Grid being missing/empty, this provided the clue.

Getting the slave to hook to the master DB also fixed the problem
that programs were not watchable from the slave.

So R5E50 is now working very well for me.

Thanks to all the developers for such a fine program.

Bill

You might want to edit the subject/title of the original post to include something like "fixed" or "solved".
