Has anyone encountered this problem. I just assembled my system. The motherboard is an intel dg965wh with core 2 dou e6400 processor and 1GB Kingston 667mhz ram. I get the following error when installing:

Can't find KNOPPIX filesystem, sorry.
Dropping you to a (very limited) shell.
Press the reset button to quit.

As a matter of fact I can't boot any live cd with this configuration. I tried SimplyMepis and Sabayon.

I hear that the problem is the IDE handling of the chipset and that a SATA IDE converter or an SATA CD/DVD drive will solve the problem. If so, why soes the KRP work when the KRP uses this same motherboard?

Any help is much appreciated.

Search for "intelfix" in the R5E50 Upgrade Hints sticky posting (it's not just for upgrades) here: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=13108

Great!. I'll give it a try. I was about to go out and buy a IDE to SATA converter.

So, to clear something up. I'm a Noob. At the first prompt where is displays: "boot:" I type in "Intelfix"?

Thanks for your help!

Regards,

Brad

Yes. It may not like being the first thing on the line, if so use "tv intelfix".

Well. It sort of works. But, only when I use intel fix with ide=reverse.

It will then load the live Cd. But, I get as far as adding usernames, passwords, etc. But, when it gets time to format the hard drive I get an error that the drive is read-only.

I looked closer at the boot up sequence and noted that the CDROM is HDA and the hard drive is HDJ.

Any other suggestions?

Hi,

Take a few minutes, pop the hood and check the drive jumpers, port selection, cmos setup etc. It needs to boot from the primary drive. The hd must be hda or sda.
