Hoooooo buddy, do I feel your pain. My Knoppmyth machine's motherboard has a crappy IDE0 port, so my drive is hdd. I spent WAY too much time figuring out how to install/upgrade to a non-hda drive.
The bottom line is the installation scripts themselves contain hardcoded references to hda, and configuration parameters file read by the scripts contains a reference to hda. I think (it's been a while) the /usr/local/bin directory that contains the scripts is union mounted so you can actually edit the files to change hda to whatever you need, but the parameters file must be moved because it is not editable in it's default location. Then the scripts need to be informed of its new location.
If you're geeky enough to want to do that I'll see if I can remember the details. Just be sure to backup your hda first, just in case.

errr ... OK. Not clear exactly what "i switched the jumpers and it worked" means (if you swapped hda<->hdb, installed Knoppmyth, then swapped them back you've still got some manual fixups to do), but now you're in a state where Knoppmyth has been installed and the system is booting off the winbloze drive using the winbloze boot manager. You want to dual boot (right?), so you want a boot manager that will boot to either Linux or winbloze. I believe that's fairly easy with Lilo. If you just google for "lilo dual boot windows" you should get the idea. And set your boot disk to the Knoppmyth disk of course.
