Post subject: | R5C7 -> R5E50 Network Card/IRQ Failure |
Hi, I recently tried upgrading from R5C7 to R5E50, and I can't get a network connection (manifested by an inability to run DHCP and no connection to DataDirect). I believe it's to do with the IRQ settings, but I can't wrap my head around this, being a rookie. Here's some specific info: 1) If I reinstall R5C7, I get a network connection--so, the card/cable/router is physically fine. One of the changes between R5C7 and R5E50 is some how preventing a network connection. 2) After a regular automatic install of R5E50, at boot after install (before set up), I get this message at the very top of the screen: > ACPI: BIOS age (2001) fails cutoff (2002), acpi=force is required to enable ACPI > Suspend 2 2.2.8.4: Missing or invalid storage location (resume2= parameter). Please correct and rerun lilo (for equivalent) before suspending > INIT: version 2.86 bootlog > Starting the hotplug events dispatcher: udevd. > Synthesizing the initial hotplug events...done. > Waiting for dev/ to be fully populated...IRQ 11: nobody cared (try booting with the "irqpoll" option) > handlers > [<d0f86410> (usb_hcd_irq+0X0/0X60 [usbcore]) > Disabling IRQ #11 > done. When I get to the "Use DHCP broadcast?" question and answer YES, the computer stalls at: > Sending DHCP broadcast from device eth0 After about 20 seconds, I get this: > Sending DHCP broadcast from device eth0Opoeration failed. > Failed. > Hit return to exit. So, no network connection there. 3) If I disable Serial Port B in BIOS, the "IRQ 11: nobody cared" message goes away. Instead, when I answer 'yes" to the "Use DHCP broadcast?" question I get the following message: > Sending DHCP broadcast from device eth0 > Message from syslog@mythtv at Fri Apr 13 08:21:10 2007 ... > mythtv kernel: Disabling IRQ #11 > Operation failed. > Failed. > Hit return to exit. Again, no network connection. 4) My hardware setup: Mobo: Intel Desktop Board D845PT NIC: integrated on desktop board PVR-350. I'm stumped. Any advice is most welcome. |

The irqpoll reference is a suggestion to put it in your boot up. I think R5E50 uses lilo. You're after something like this: http://www.colug.net/pipermail/colug432 ... 00594.html It's worth while reading up on both lilo and grub anyway, so do that first. Some kernel revisions handle IRQ/BIOS stuff differently from others, so your problem doesn't surprise me. |
