Hi,

I am still unable to install Knoppmyth successfully on my new hardare (or other Myth distributions for different reasons). I came back to Knoppmyth from this aborted attempt http://www.knoppmyth.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=17131&highlight= and noticed when it freezes at formatting, it says formatting hda1. I have an IDE DVD drive and a SATA hard drive. I thought the naming convention for a SATA drive in Linux was sda1. Is this correct and the autoinstall script is freezing because it is attempting to install to a non-existent hard drive?

I tried the manual install and got to

Code:
knoppmyth partition-menu
1 - partition the hard drive
fatal dialog error:
error: expected at least 7 tokens for --radiolist, have 4
use --help to list options
root@knoppix:/# --help
bash: --help: command not found

Is there a way to specify the SATA drive as the installation destination?

Thanks.

I don't know about the rest of your hardware, but I installed Knoppmyth from a PATA DVD drive to a SATA HDD. Have you tried installing a regular Linux distro on it? Could it be the chipsets or a temperature related issue? Does your BIOS show any PATA devices besides the DVD drive?

All I can say is that using a PATA DVD drive and SATA hard drive is not the ONLY issue here (maybe coupled with something else, it could be a contributing factor) because I have seen other installations with the same type of setup.

Maybe you could try different IDE and SATA ports and cables.

Ubuntu 7.10 and MythBuntu won't get past installation, it "bluescreens" saying the x-server crashed 3 times in 90 seconds, will try again in 90 seconds. Mythdora installs successfully, but on reboot it displays an X mouse cursor in the middle of the screen for a few seconds and then the video signal ends.

I think you are right that the onboard video is either not compatible with Linux or it requires special configuration. I'm getting an ASUS EN6200LE video card which is the Dragon standard. I'll try MythBuntu and Mythdora first again because I think it is more likely to fix their problems. If they don't work, I'll try Knoppmyth. I'd rather have Knoppmyth, but I can't imagine a video card fixing the hard drive failing to format.

Chipset is a possibility causing the Knoppmyth problem, but I haven't found anything about it being compatible or not. Temperature in BIOS is normal. BIOS shows no other devices. At first all distributions couldn't detect a hard drive. I discovered I had to switch SATA compatibility from IDE to ACHI. The only other choice is RAID, and that seemed to work but since I am not using RAID I figured better to disable it.

I love the poor documentation of BIOS features by motherboard manufacturers. There is only one IDE port, I can try switching the SATA port tonight or tomorrow. Sure doesn't seem like that could be the problem though.

Thanks.
