Hi Tjc,

Do mean that the auto-upgrade is integrated into the backend?

Has anyone been successful or unsuccessful in doing the upgrade from R5F27 to R5.5 when the DB schema is already at 1214 or should I be the guinea pig on this?

tks!

Yes, the mythbackend program is what actually does the DB upgrades. Or rather it's something in the common mythtv shared libraries since the frontend also seems to do it.

To answer the other part of my own question: The R5.5 upgrade (manual) from R5F27 with updated db (schema 1214) worked fine for me.

Yeah, as long as everything is consistent it should just work. If it didn't being a tester would be a lot more painful since you're forever bumping from test version to test version. ;-)

For what it's worth, I ran into this problem while upgrading my system and was able to get around it by setting the proper ip in my.conf. On the next reboot it got past the infinite loop and did take a long time to upgrade the schema, but apparently did so successfully. I actually was looking into backing up my files and clean installing when I noticed that it had finished and mythfrontend had come up.
