I chose auto-install from the install menu. It gave me a choice of sda or sdb (with incorrect labels implying they were attached to my USB card reader). These are my 2 SATA drives and it correctly showed them both as 250GB (they are identical WD drives).

I selected sdb, as my R5F27 was on sda so I thought I'd leave it around for a while. When it came to the "are you sure" prompt it said that it was going to erase sda rather than sdb. I went back to the drive selection and once again I chose sdb, and once again it referred to sda when I had gotten to that part of the process. I ended up just letting it proceed (my kids' Spongebob collection would reconstitute itself quick enough, I figured), and sure enough it wiped my R5F27 as it said it was going to do.

I have faint recollections that my installation of R5F27 did this too, way back when, but I'm not positive.

I have faint recollections that someone posted a bit of a flame
on this a few versions ago.

I recall that tjc's notes say that you must actually press the
space bar and see the check mark or you have not actually
selected what you think you have. Just using the down arrow
and hitting enter is not enough.

Hmmm...
This poster says that he actually hit the space bar, but it
used the wrong drive:http://knoppmyth.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=18614&highlight=
