Would there be any issues with installing KM on a CF flash card, and having all the content stored on a server? Would the logs create a problem for the CF card?

Probably. You might be able to use something like unionfs with a RAM disk for volatile stuff, but it'd definitely be an "Advanced Unix Hacking" project.

For low noise or low power your best bet is still probably some kind of 2.5" laptop HD.

Well there is the problem. I will probably go ahead, and try the remote storage thing, but just use a single drive for the MBE rather than a CF card.

Disclaimer: I've never tried this method (but have wanted to for quite a while), so if your system breaks, you keep both parts. ;)

Hi

There is an alternative route to a cf card. Not a 100% solid state however 99.9% silent. I am using a Seagate ST1 5gig cf hard drive (spins at 4k rpm) for the system and an external usb storage for files. Could just as well be a nas I suspect.

I got the drive and the ide adapter via geeks for ~$20 plus shipping. On a VIA mother board it is real quiet. I doubt it would be able to do hd except to record but I just use it to experiment with anyway.

Just a thought.

Mike
