Ok I had a problem with watching 1080i format when I change to VGA input on a new TV. I was using component input at 1080i. The new tv only supports 720p. So I decided to change to the driver version to see if that would fix the problem. After changing the Driver version I now get the following message:
Code:
Error: API mismatch: the NVIDIA kernel module has version 173.14.09,
but this NVIDIA driver component has version 96.43.05.  Please make
sure that the kernel module and all NVIDIA driver components
have the same version.

I tried running:
install-nvidia-debian.sh 173.14.09 -force
and it ends with a message
Code:
Errors were encountered while processing:
 /usr/src/debs/nvidia/latest/nvidia-glx_173.14.09-1_i386.deb

I'm running as root and permissions look good. How do I fix this problem?

I was able to get both the kernel module and the driver component to the 96.43.05 level by running
Code:
install-nvidia-debian.sh 96.43.05 -force

Unfortunately that didn't solve the problem. I'll open another thread for the 1080i problem.

I don't know too much about the VGA output; I have only used DVI --> HDMI. As to the nvidia driver installation, can you post your hardware details? Have you tried downloading the official nvidia package for your particular card?

graysky

I am using a FX 5200 card, and have tried both the 173.14.09 and the 96.43.05 drivers. I also tried a Geforce 6200 card with the same drivers and get the same results.

If I try to watch Live TV and the tuner is set to a 1080i station I get a hang. I can escape and go back to the menu.

However if the tuner is set to a 720p station it works, get this!! Once I'm on the tuner I can then tune a 1080i station on the same tuner and it works.

Any suggestions?

The resolution was to change the Video Playback Profile from Normal to Slim

Setup / TV Settings / Playback / Video Playback Profile

After changing to Slim everything works!
