I'm trying to install R6 on a ASUS P4S800D-X motherboard, intel processor, 1 PATA drive as master and 1 DVD as slave.

If I run the install w/o splash screen it stops with the following on the screen.
Code:
... not /dev/sr0

... /dev/sda1 mounted, but no 'larch/larchboot' found

I've tried with two different motherboads (both ASUS) and get the same ending. Any suggestions?

The two things I could think of offhand were:

1) did you test the CD to make sure the burn was good?

2) did you try cabling the DVD as a secondary master on its own cable, rather than the slave on the hard drive's cable?

Since R6 does not come up to a command prompt like previous releases, how do you run testcd?

I did however verify the Hash numbers on the image after the download and they were ok, I had also tried separate cables for the DVD/Cdrom on the second controller.

Wow still no suggestions. Well I decided to try to install Arch Linux to see what happened there. No big surprise but that sure makes it a Arch Linux issue.

I did find the same problem on the Arch Linux forum, and was resolved by the following:
Code:
I don't know why but I changed the usbrelay to 15 and it booted...

Is this a boot setting?
Thanks ..

mihanson,

Thanks for the info. Guess I didn't read quite far enough.

I was able break at the grub and edit the entry on the Arch install CD, how ever still no luck. I still get the same error.

Also, I was not able to create a break in the R6 install cd. Any other suggestions?

Still no suggestions? Guess I'll just stay at R5.5

jams from IRC answered my question. It appears there is no way to test the CD only the MD5 of the iso file. I guess theoretically you could try copying the CD back to an iso and checking that. YRMV.

If anyone runs into problems with the install hanging at the very beginning of the "Please wait, "mythtv" is preparing for life", consider just trying to install again. Worked for me.
