I am pretty much a newbie. I originally used RH9 with MythTV, that was my first Linux experience. However, I got a new HD and figured I'd try KnoppMyth. Everything has gone much smoother and works better but I have a problem with Xv. I have installed the SIS driver from winischhofer.net. Atleast I think I have. I just copied the binary over to the driver directory as it says. I also edited my XF86Config to use the sis driver. Still no Xv support though. I am pretty confused. Does knoppix have another place to set which video driver to use? In RH9 there was a nice GUI to do it. Thanks! |

Well actually the file you want to edit is XF86Config-4 I only say this because both are in knoppmyth, but you need to modify this one. |

Ah, thanks, I didn't know that. I edited XFConfig-4 and I don't get the message from mythtv that it can't find Xv anymore. I thought getting Xv to work would stop the problem I was having with all video being really really jumpy but it hasn't. I am using a pundit, as I said, a leadtek tv2000 deluxe, celeron 2ghz, 384mb of RAM, and a 160gb hd. It should be enough to run myth smoothly, it ran well when I was using RH9. I am not sure what to do. I was fiddling with the options for the sis video driver in XFConfig-4 for a few days now but it's not doing anything. If anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate it. Thanks again. |

quick suggestion. get to a root prompt and run Code: hdparm -c -d /dev/hda
of course swap hda with hdb etc if you are using a different drive. the output of this should show that both dma and 32bit access are on. Generaly this is on by default in knoppmyth, but if either or both are off (set to 0) then it will cause jerky playback. |

Thanks so much to both of you. That did it. Is there an easy way to get it to be enabled at boot? |

You're welcome. Take a look at /etc/init.d/bootmisc.sh , the last line turns on dma. If your drive isn't on hda, modify. |
