I'm installing Knopmyth from a CD image I've got in mysettopbox.tv
My PC is an old P-II 300, with one IDE drive (C:), one SCSI, and a SCSI CD drive.

The problem is that when I insert the Knoppmyth CD in the drive and boot from it all goes well until the point when when it reaches "INIT: Entering runlevel: 5" as shown in the picture bellow. Then the PC hangs. There's nothing I can do, except hit the reset button...

Anyone knows what's going wrong???

Hi.

How long did you wait for a reaction? Perhaps it's the small RAM-size that makes Knoppix slow. What's your HDD size?
What will happen if you change to console 2 (ALT, CTRL, F2)?
If you see the prompt here, try to read the XF86.log

Half an hour - It's just about enough, don't you think?

My RAM size (128Mb) isn't that small. I've got a laptop with 128Mb of RAM running WIN 2000 Pro loaded with software and works great.
My HD size is 6Gb IDE (C: ) and 9Gb SCSI.

As I said, it hangs in that point. And I mean really hangs! Nothing works, exept for the reset switch...

Thanks anyway... Any ideas???

Hi mbaptista.

Sorry for late reply.

I had the same effect with

a) defective RAM
c) HDD with bad blocks

So I had both errors in one machine it wasn't easy to find out.

Try the "memtest" from SuSE-CD No.1 to check RAM. Perhaps you can use another HDD for check it out.

Sorry, but even if you resolve your hardware problems, running MythTV on a P II 300 won't be very fruitful.
