A7N8X-MX SE PVR-350 200GB WD Ok everyone, I installed Knoppmyth R4V5 with some basic issues I took care of. But when I moved the PC to the other room, and booted it I got a boot screen after LILO that had tux in the left hand corner. Figuring a fubared something I reinstalled. Upon boot with fresh install tux was still there. Being a bit ticked, I pulled out my gentoo cd, booted that and wiped the drive clean, booted knoppmyth and reinstalled again. Rebooted after install and there is tux. Does anyone have any idea what I could check? I am not a total noob, just like 95% or so. |

yeah, i do get some text. most of it is just the computer recognizing devices busid's. i would copy the text if i could get logged into the pc. |

my guess is that you unplugged your PS/2 keyboard when you moved it to the other room? I have found that regardless of how you install, if you do not have a PS/2 keyboard attached it will get about 3 seconds into boot and then hang. at least, this is the case with my hardware setup. This has been mentioned in other threads, but I am at a loss to find them at the moment. hope that helps. --sa |

wow that would be correct. is there any solution to this? the keyboard i use(wireless logitec) only works with one in USB and the other in the mouse ps/2 |

Enable USB keyboard support in your BIOS. You may have to hunt around some to find it. |

it would be nice if that's all it was. this is another one of the issues that croped up in R4V3 when several kernel options were disabled. There is no fix that I know of there are a couple of very long threads with people trying to figure it out, but no solutions. |

actually I don't think that will do it. it seems to be a rather common but somewhat elusive problem. here's the thread I was talking about that covers this topic in a little more detail: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1403&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=boot+keyboard&start=0 in the thread Xsecrets mentions something about enabling APIC and ACPI during install. curious that I disable APIC during install to get my ethernet to play nice (via) and I have the keyboard problem. Maybe he was on to something there? In any case, my solution was to get a PS/2 wireless from newegg. they have a nice little compact keyboard with built-in thumbstick mouse here: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=23-107-114&depa=1. kind of a cop-out I guess but it works great for me. --sa |

Yes, there is a more complicated issue, but for some people the simple solution apparently works. I actually thought about going back and editing that to say, "Try enabling ..." or "Have you tried enabling ...". It's almost always best to try the simple fixes first... 
As for the keyboard, I don't think it's a cop out at all. I've got one of those on my wish list for the upgrade machine.

I'll agree on the path of least resistance, namely, getting that keyboard from NewEgg and plugging it in. I got one and it works great. It's cheaper than most third-party remotes you can get, and it plugs in and works, no mucking about with lirc and key mappings and the like. |

heres a question, (mind the noobisms) would two keyboards(one ps2 and one usb) work simultaneously? i will try this when i get back to the pvr |
