Post subject:  not booting

I did an auto install and everything went fine. The system rebooted and the bios splash screen shows up and then nothing happens. No Lilo, no myth. I have attemted to search the fourms but I can't seem to find anyone with the same problem. My harddrive is is set to master and is on the primary channel. Any help or suggestions?

any error messages, no nothing showing?

Try to install grub instead of lilo, use my instructions and se if that helps.

You'll find them here

Maybe you'll then be able to load the kernel and the mount the disks.

i get a " Verifying DMI Pool Data..........." message with a cursor that just keeps blinking.... so im guessing something might be wrong with my mbr
, i would like to try to get lilo to work, nothing against grub.

I had the same problem with my Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe mother board.

If it hangs there then upgrade the bios, and go over all cmos settings. That's what helped me.

If the mbr is bad you should get an error message like: Bad partition table or the like.

Keep us posted ;)

well search the forums for chroot. There are instructions on how to chroot from the cdrom and install/reinstall lilo.

Post subject:  black screen

So I kicked the box!!!! And now it boots. So my best guess is that something was not set properly.

I then proceded to run "install-nvideo.sh" and then "install-i686-lx". I believe I set up my card properly with the mythtv-setup command but who knows. With in the setup program under the capture card setup menu should I set the Video device option to /dev/video or /dev/video0 or /dev/video1. Is there a way I can check to see if knoppmyth is seeing my card and it is working properly. Within the front end I select watch tv and then the front end goes black and quits, on xterm the last two lines that are outputed are "No XvMC found" and "Segmentation fault". I'm not the best of searchers so I was un able to find anything.

when you boot up do you see the nvidia logo when X starts?

if not make sure that you are using "nvidia" driver instead of "nv" in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4

also you could go to setings tv playback and uncheck the use xvmc box on the bottom of the page with the pvr350 tvout option.

Yes, when I boot I do see the nvidia logo when X starts. I tried locating the xvmc box to see if its checked or not and I can't seem to find it.

if you installed the lx version then the box should be there. look for the screen with the pvr350 stuff then at the bottom there is a checkbox for xvmc.

Or an "impact adjustment"... Or if you really want to get technical "tuning by pedally mediated kinetic energy transfer". ;-)

I have the same board, and after reading this thread, I updated my bios. That resolved some of my issues. However I too have the blinky cursor issue too.

Post is fine.
Verifying DMI Pool Data....................
Boot from CD:
_ (blinky cursor).

Something I did notice during installation right near the end. On the screen, text says something about RSA,.. then it gets errors which scroll by too fast to catch, another was something about can't find Knoppymyth-.....shadow. Then the install says it's done.

Post subject:  I was having the same problem

I was having the exact same problem (with R5A12), finaly i gave up and decided i'd try R4V5, I began booting from that disk, got as far as setting time zone, and my cat knocked out my power. I restarted without the disk in and it booted fine into R5A12, i have know idea how or why that worked(i'm a complete newbie concering linux as well as myth) but it seemed like a better idea than kicking the box.
