Post subject:  Upgrading from r5a15 -> r5a15.1

Hey guys,

Since ive just finished getting my entire backend running on a15, and have just noticed 15.1 arriving.

Can I do a simple upgrade?

I read the pamphlet and it states once doing a backup you can do an auto-upgrade (from R3 or R4).

Does this apply to R5 releases as well?

Any info would be great.

Thanks

Yes, you can do an auto-upgrade for R5 releases. However, if your A15 is working fine, I'm not sure you need to worry about installing A15.1... the changes were very specific, mainly dealing with USB thumb drive support and wireless drivers.

If you do decide to do it, note that many post-install tweaks won't be preserved after an auto-upgrade. In particular, any changes you made to your XF86Config-4 file will have to be redone (so first copy your modified file to your /home/mythtv directory so it'll be backed up too), you'll have to re-install nVidia drivers if that applies to you, you will have to re-fiddle with ivtv and lirc if you had to do that before, etc etc etc.

Also note to BACK UP before auto-upgrading (use the KnoppMyth button on the MythTV main menu and pick "backup KnoppMyth")!

yes just run myth<tab><tab> and look for the right command. I think it's mythbackup, might be mythtvbackup. there is also a restore command, but the upgrade should run that one for you automatically.

The first one mythbackup is correct.
