Post subject:  SSH Not Working

Hi,

I just installed R5A15, and I haven't been able to SSH into my MythTv box. I get an error that the username and password is incorrect, but the SSH client I am using hasn't sent the password yet. It only tried to connect. SSH work previously before I upgraded. Any ideas?

Thanks in advanced,
John

Did you check to see if sshd is running on the Myth box?
Code:
pgrep -f sshd -l

If it's not, you'll need to start it and set things up so it starts at boot time in the future.

Also, are you sure you're using the right IP address? Remember the D in DHCP stands for "dynamic" as in "constantly changing".

Oh, is that what the "D" stands for  I thought it meant Dicky as in Doesn't always work (tongue is now firmly stuck in cheek) :P

There are definitely days I think "dynamic" is a cuss word...

Yes, I am going to the correct ip address. And sshd is running. The first time I connected, my client asked to save the public key.

Anyway, I reinstalled the previous version and ssh works. So I will try installing R15 again and see if I get the same problem. Thanks for the ideas.

I found out just today that the reason I was having problem SSHing to my Mythbox was that I was using an older version of Putty.

What was happening is when I would try to connect to my Myth box Putty would crash. Since I downloaded the latest version from http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/ I am now happily SSHing away. :)

I am using R5A15.1

well I haven't looked at this at all, but I guess it's possible that the new version of knoppmyth has sshv1 support turned off by default, which could explain older clients having problems. Like I said that is strictly a guess, as I am too lazy to actually look at it.
