I think I screwed up during the install. Eveything seems to work just fine in Myth but I can't get my Tivo Remote (along with a Snapstream USB IR Receiver) working. I've had both working with Myth in other distributions. I successully uninstalled the lirc version that comes with KnoppMyth and replaced it with a patched CVS version (along with a diff patch) that has support for the Snapstream receiver. I've updated the etc/modutils/lirc to comment out the i2c driver (I have a PVR350) and replace it with my new lirc_streamzap driver which successfully loads. I then load the TIVO remote file (to /etc/lircd.conf) from lirc.org and build my /home/mythtv/.mythtv/lircrc file. I finally kickoff irw which responds/reports properly to each button I press.

I fire up mythfrontend which has no reaction to my remote presses. I've double checked that lircd.conf is proper and in place, the driver is loaded, the lircrc file is formatted correctly but mythfrontend still doesn't respond to the remote. Fortunately the remote receiver has a red led on top to indicate it has received the signal so I can rule out the receiver.

So I was reading the forum where I noticed someone metnion the subject install script. I have a Dell Dimension XPS T500 which I am pretty sure is a Pentium 3 (and hence a 586, right?). Well, during the install process, I came across the dialog which asked about that and I took the default which i think was a 686. I assume that would be bad and may be my problem. Question....am I right that I should have selected the 586 option? And if so, do I need to start from scratch or is there someway to revert back? I tried issuing the command from root but got errors and it appears it failed.

Help!

The P III is a 686. dpkg -r mythtv<tab> to remove the i586 package and install-i686-l will install the i686 package.

actually in your case if you took the default install you should just be able to run the install-i686-l script i586 is for via c3 chips as they do not have the sse instructions.

Post subject:  Remote still not working

OK....So I'm still at a loss then as to why my lirc is not working. Like I said, I've patched the CVS version, downloaded the proper lircd.conf file, and built my lircrc. IRW correctly reflects the appropriate button when I press it but myth has no reaction/response. Any ideas?

Things I've checked....
+ lircd.conf file is in /etc and is appropriate for my Tivo remote
+ lircd is started and running and using the correct lirc_streamzap driver
+ lircrc is in my /home/mythtv/.mthtv folder and I've tripple checked the format

and you have run the install-x86-l script? this is neccesary as it installs mythtv with lirc support. This is needed to make lirc respond to the lircrc file in /home/mythtv/.mythtv otherwise you have to use /home/mythtv/.lircrc and use irxevent.
