Post subject:  R5A15.1 hangs after "Autoconfigure..."
I am currently switching back from Windows to Linux - but that is not so easy...
I have a similar problem as this, but don't have any twin-whatsoever card installed.

Autoconfigure shows a nice progress bar - writes "Done" - cursor goes into the next line and then the show is over. :(


My system:

MSI Hermes 845GV
Intel Pentium IV @ 2.5GHz
256 MB Ram
Hauppauge PVR-350
ATI Sapphire 7000 TVO (PCI)

Even booting with "failsafe" fails.

My next step would be to physically remove the ATI - but that is something I would like to avoid. Opening and closing the Hermes is a tricky task.

Any other suggestions.

A bit disappointed deischi in that you have posted this "AGAIN", but if you read the whole thread you would have seen a copule of other options to try.

One is removing the card and see if it boots.

Check to see that you have turned PNP off in the BIOS and then you may need to set the IRQ's manually so that they are not being shared.

Pass options to the kernel to turn off ACPI and PNP, as a last resort you could try "failsafe" as this turns off most stuff.

This could also be related to a bug in the 2.6.11.7 kernel that has been fixed in 2.6.11.8
Someone did a writeup on how to upgrade the kernel (with the card removed to prevent the lockup) if you encounter this problem.
There will be a new release to fix the problem some time after cesman gets home from his roadtrip.

I actually wrote a script that did most of the work for you to upgrade your kernel.

Sorry, that I have started yet another thread for this. But have started a new thread based on my experience with bug reports (the ones I usualy receive at work). If a problem is reported from several sides it is more likely a fix/workaround/upgrade version will implemented.

I have tried all the boot options and BIOS settings I found in the earlier threads - none helped.

I do not have any Linux installed currently - so recompiling is not really an option.

deischi, mate you seem a little confused. When you recompile the kernel, you only do this after installing KnoppMyth WITHOUT your problematic TV card installed.

This again does make me wonder if you have actually, truely read that whole other thread. :x

Mate I like to help don't get me wrong, just frustrating repeating what other people have said, including myself.

Just to help directly with your problem let me ask you this:

As you stated you are not really in a position to remove the TV card (which is unfortunate), so have you set the IRQs for all the PCI slots in your BIOS and turned off PNP?
