Post subject: | grub command prompt comes after install |
I installed KnoppMyth R5A15.1, and besides some problems with cfdisk the installation went OK. In the end there were some messages flashing (when it tried to create ssh keys), but I am not sure if those were errors or not. However, once I reboot, I get grub> command prompt. First, I thought it installs lilo, not grub; and second, what should I do next? I have one SATA hard drive (install identifies it as /dev/hde), so I was doing manual install... Any suggestions? Obviously, I am very new to KnoppMyth; I was trying to install MythTV on FC3 for a week; then gave up and decided to switch to KnoppMyth... but no luck here, either Thanks in advance |

you are correct knoppmyth uses lilo. if you are seeing grub my guess is it's something left over from your attempts at FC that didn't get overwritten properly. |

first, you are right - even if I remove all partitions, I still boot into grub. So, the question is - how do I remove it? I chose to install KnoppMyth into MBR - I thought that would overrite grub, but obviously it didn't. Any suggestions? Thanks |

Boot off the CD. Quit the install program and mount the root partition. Chroot to the partition and then run lilo with verbose switch. Any errors? Exit chroot and reboot. If you don't understand any of the about, step by step instructions have been written up in the past. |

I do understand most of above... However, I installed the bootloader into root partition, rather than in MBR - and it started working. For testing purposes, I re-initialized my disk (it's SATA and it has setup CD); so my disk wouldn't boot into grub - and to avoid the situation where computer boots into grub and grub chains into LILO. So, thanks for all your help; seems like this was overcome. On for next adventures! |
