Post subject:  AC'97 Onboard audio

I am trying to determine why I don't have any audio for my KnoppMyth install.

I am using a Shuttle XPC box so I am limited by expansion slots (actually all are full 1 AGP is VideoCard, 1 PC is PVR-250). Therefore (unless I start dabbling with USB, which I don't want to do just yet), I am stuck with the Shuttles on-board AC'97 audio (VIA chipset).

While reading the forums here, I noticed that someone ran this:

dmesg | grep -i audio

which returned several lines that listed AC'97 as being detected... However when I run this on my machine, all I get is:

saa7115[0] set audio: 0x02
saa7115[0] set audio: 0x02

Is this normal? This is immediately after a boot and I am positive I have AC'97 enabled in the BIOS. Can anyone shed some light on this area as it might help be figure out why I haven't any sound?

Thanks,

Well if you want to see if the sound modules are loaded you should:
lsmod | grep snd
If that is the case the sound modules are loaded. If you aren't getting sound while watching perhaps it is the 250. That questions as been answered numerous times, search the forum. You should souble check your BIOS to indeed make sure you have sound enabled. If it isn't enable, once KnoppMyth boots as root:
/etc/init.d/alsa-autoconfig
update-modules
