Setup: Dell Optiplex GX150 PIII 1GHz, 512MB Ram WD 120 GB HD Video: Added low profile GeForce 4 MX 440 Capture + Encoder: Hauppauge WinTV 350 Sound: Onboard AC'97 chipset KnoppMyth R4 install no problems except setting timezone (easy enough to fix later). Sound card isn't detected for whatever reason... Checking dmesg after boot and running lsmod proves that the i810_audio module isn't loading for whatever reason. Running /etc/init.d/alsa-autoconfig seems to fix this as now snd modules show as being loaded after running lsmod. I run aumix and pump up all the entries and the run mpg123 with an mp3 and still no joy. Anyone have any basic recommendations on how to get this to work? Pointers to log files or piping a file to device to prove that the sound device works would be helpful. For what it's worth, throwing the latest Knoppix 3.3 CD in and booting all sound works, so I know the hardware works under Linux. Thanks, JJ |

Found my own problem, I failed to notice that all the lines in alsamixer had cute little MMs at the top of the them which indicates they were muted. Anyhow, a quick hit of the M key on all the muted lines and I was hearing glorious McLaughlin Group politcal diatribes in sound! /usr/sbin/alsactl store To save my sound settings, and then I through a exec /usr/sbin/alsactl restore into /home/mythtv/.fvwm/.fvw2rc so that my settings are restored at each boot up. Next challenge TV-Out on the MX 440. |

Post subject: | MX440 tv out |
Of all the things i have done this is the easiest. Just run the install-ncidia.sh from the root and add the line option "connectMonitor" "tv" under device and your away. Although i have found that it only lets the tv out work and switches off the monitor output. I installed putty on the windoz boxen and with a bit of stuffen around with the hosts file i was away. Just follow the install inst on the home page and it works great. Chris |
