Post subject: | PVR-250 Newer Model? |
Hi, I am new user of MythTV and was originally using an ATI TV Wonder PCI but after reading reviews I decided to buy a WinTV PVR 250. It turns out to be a Model 980 which sports a different Conexant Chip (iTVC16). Now when I start up the box it cannot initialize the /dev/video because the card is not being recognized. The log is showing this line when trying to load the car. Multimedia video controller: Internext Compression Inc: Unknown device 0016 (rev 01) Does anyone have any ideas on what I need to update if there is one out there? Any help will be greatly appreciated. I am very new to the Linux system but am loving it so far. Thanks |

The output from lspci is accurate. Have you tried capturing video or watching tv? |

Later in the log is says that is cannot initialize /dev/bttv and when I try within MythTV to load the TV viewer it crashes completely. So I haven't successfully viewed or recorded TV. |

There is no /dev/bttv. Did you configure the system properly? Perhaps browsing the MythTV docs would help? |

Is the log generated as a file? I was just thinking I could post a bit of it here to help diagnose the problem? |

Yes, the log is in /var/log/mythtv/. Did you check the MythTV docs? Posting a log with invalid configuration will only show a invalid configuration. Your tuner should be /dev/videoX. |

Post subject: | Same issue |
Cesman, I believe this is the same issue I am having... I had (after the fresh install) to yank it or the system would not load video. I then replaced it with a WinTV (which I cant use ... slowwwww) and am not sure how to tackle the PVR250 topic. I have another in my MCE system I am going to pull and see if the chip-set performs differently. Let me know if u have any advice. Thanks |

I too make a model 980 PVR-250 and have no issues w/ it. What chipset does your motherboard have? Have you tried a different PCI slot? Again /dev/bttv is invalid. Have you corrected your configuration? |

Post subject: | Swapping PVR250's |
I swapped the one from my MCE System - it is the PVR250 with the CompositeIN and Svideo - the other only has Svideo input. I am not getting video at all from the cable signal - but wonder if I need to clean some old data out. I did per the login have it clean the old stuff (yes) to answers 1 & 2 .... but no video. I still need to tweak but truly think I am hung now. I am black-screened with no way to exit - its more than jsut a black tv screen I believe. |

After a new install I am not getting the /dev/bttv errors at all so that is good. But when I try to start the TV option it kills the MythTV running and when I restart it and try TV again it says it cannot connect with the Backend Server. I have also edited the .fvwmr2c file that the forum notes to edit. Any Ideas? |

Post subject: | Did see PVR250 on load |
I forgot to add it does seem to see this card in the startup log passing thru the screen, the other it did not - It is referring to it as an Intertext iTVC15 MPEG Encoder.... |

Did you configure MythTV? With nothing in the db, you cannot watch TV. Search the forum, this question has been answered many times. |

When I fresh installing, something was going wrong - and NO I could not. I needed to narrow it down and found it was the PVR250 causing a dead black screen with a blinking cursor in the upper left. I now have the differnt PVR250 in the box, I can load fine - but when I try to get to LiveTV I get the blackscreen (with hang) but no blinking cursor. With a basic WinTV card, I got TV picture but as typical its pitiful with no Hardware compression offload - I could not go that route. I was very very surprised by this as so so many people seem to be having ZERO issue with the PVR250? I was not expecting that. Still plgguing away here |
