Post subject: | R4 + Shuttle SN41G2 (nForce) integrated SOUND trouble... :( |
Hello, my name is snaef999 and I am a newb! Now that that is off my chest... I have just set up R4 with a Shuttle xpc. The Shuttle uses the onboard nForce sound hardware. I have Myth up and working with the guide data, but can not get sound to work. I need some help on how I should go about trouble shooting this. Things I have tried so far: 1. Live TV....no sound 2. played audio cd through Myth...no sound 3. CTRL-SHIFT-F1 to get to shell and logged in as root. 4. Ran 'alsamixer' and turned up the levels on everything as well as unmuted everything using the M key. 5. Back to Live TV...no sound 6. tried to use mplayer directly to play cd...but I'm a newb and dont know how to mount an audio cd properly ('mount /dev/cdrom /cdrom' works for a disk with a file system..but audio cds are no go) 7. gave up and started searching this forum Any suggestions on things to check? I'm not even sure the correct driver module is getting loaded for the chipset, but the LAN card works so I did not want to run the driver script from nVidia thinking that I might mess the LAN stuff up. According to the specs the audio is Realtek ALC650 Thanks..Scott. (shuttle sn41g2/PVR-250) |

Use MythMusic to try and listen to a CD. Which tuner card do you have? |

I tried using myth to play the CD, but that did not work. I have a PVR250. what commands should I use to test if all the modules i need are loaded? |

Did you read the sticky that states what to do when you don't have sound w/ a PVR? Is you CD-ROM drive secondary master? |

I have an SN41G2 and and PVR-250 and my onboard audio works fine. As root at a shell prompt try: test_ioctl -y mute=0 test_ioctl -y volume=65535 I used to have to do that after booting and then, for some unknown reason, the settings stuck and I don't have to do that anymore. (I had tried putting it into a boot time script but it gave me yellow lines on the display. I also tried editing CMD2 in the KnoppMyth-run script, as mentioned in other forum posts, but I got the same yellow lines. And then the problem went away.) |

Thanks for the tip about changing the startup script, I did not see that one at first. Strange problem now though...I can only get sound to work out of my surround sound outputs. Strange thing is that I think I am getting the main left and right channels from that jack. CD works fine..and as far as I know the CD I am playing was not encoded with surround sound ![]() On another note...I now need to steup up my nVidia display card. I put this off because X was working up until now, but I now need to get the TV out working. I tried the install-nvidia.sh script mentioned in the guide but I get the relocation error when mythbackend starts. As noted in another post I downloaded the new drivers from nvidia but can not install them because X is running. If I kill X it just restarts.... How can I shutdown X? I guess there is a config file in my user profile somewhere, but I am new to linux and dont quite know where to look. I think this is my last step...If I try to change to another run level (ex: init3) it does not work. I guess KnoppMyth run levels are not quite set up in a standard way. Thank you! |

oops..fixed it. Run level 1 will kill x and go back to terminal only. I ran the nVidia installer and it works now. However...it looks like alsamixer will not hold my levels. I have seen some posts on this and will check around. |
