The installation of R4 went very well except the TV module does not work. When I try to watch TV I get the following error:
"Could not connect to the master backend server -- is it running? Is the IP address set for it in the setup program correct?"

I probably configured the TV capture device incorrectly, please advise.

Also when I exit Myth I I get a blan screen, why don't I end up on the Linux Desktop?

BTW, great work to the creators of KnoppMyth, the install process went better thatn I anticipated.

If it is as you suggest and you did setup the capture device incorrectly then the backend isn't starting because of this you'll need to correct it. That is one of the many "Linux desktops". Move the mouse left click, select Xterm and left click. Type mythtv-setup, once done. As root /etc/init.d/mythtv-backend restart. Type exit and thn mythfrontend. if you don't know hoe to setup MythTV take a look at:http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-9.html Read the General section.

Thanks,
cesman

not sure about the tv stuff but you do get the linux desktop. knoppmyth by default uses fvwm windowmanager with everything turned off. This is because fvwm doesn't use many resources. You can install a complete desktop enviornment like kde or gnome if you want to.

did you run mythfilldatabase after you did all four steps of the setup?

Thanks, your suggestions allowed me to get further. I now have TV, but the image is terrible, B/W mostly. Also the channels are off what should be NBC is Fox.

I tried <F> to change the color setting but nothing happens.

I have a LeadTech 200 deluxe.

Try the following as root:
echo "options bttv card=34 radio=1 gbuffers=8" > /etc/modutils/User
echo "options tuner type=2 " >> /etc/modutils/User
update-modules
reboot

oh and just a note about the f button. It only works if you are using the xv output. It is an option in the playback setup.

cesman,
I made the changes described above and it fix my TV problem, but when I change channels the box hangs.

Channels successfully changed prior to the fix.
Using Xawtv channels also change correctly.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Mike G

when you try to change channels do you get anything in either /var/log/mythtv/mythbackend.log or /var/log/messages ?

any messages here will go a long way to figuring out the problem.

"gbuffers=2-32 number of capture buffers for mmap'ed capture." I got those values from a fellow useruser who had issues w/ his Leadtek. Try dropping the gbuffer option. Do a Google to see what other Leadtek owners have be doing to get it working...

cesman,
At the time I was hanging myth, I was having problems with TV sound. Once I resolved my sound problems everything seemed to work fine. My Live TV is no longer hanging when changing channels.

Thanks for the help.
The install is great, keep up the excellent work.
