Post subject: | Setup complete :-) A few loose end questions |
Ok, I have successfully setup MythTV via KnoppMyth. Things went fairly smooth. Just a matter of searching and locating supporting doc. I have a couple quick questions that I could NOT find searching the archives. Any assistance is appreciated. 1.) How can I tell what resolution I am running at? And how can I change it if I want? 2.) Can someone point me to a listing of what all the keys are that control the MythTV install via my wireless keyboard? I can not fine my key.txt file that documents the keys. 3.) I am using a pvr-350 with a gray remote. My remote does not work after completing my installation of KnoppMyth. Should it be or is there more configuring that I need to do? If I need to do something can you supply the link that documents the process? I could not find anything. Thanks! -Brian |

There may be better answers out there but one way that you can tell what resolution you are running at is to check your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file. Check for a line like this: Option "MetaModes" "1024x768, 1024x768; 800x600, 800x600" You see here from my XF86Config-4 file that I by default I run my TV and My monitor (when it is hooked up) at 1024x768. But I can change it to make then both 800x600. So to answer your second question, to change it just change this line or add it to your XF86Config-4 file. Cecil has kindly provided an html version of the keys.html file from the KnoppMyth mirrors. You can find one link here: ftp://ftp.rdt1.org/From/KnoppMyth/r4/keys.html I have no idea about the pvr-350 remote as I have the Hauppauge 401 and I don't use the remote. However, I believe that in the install you need to exit out of X when it starts up the first time and install something that provides the LIRC stuff. (You can tell I really know what I am talking about here). The directions aren't very clear on this at all. I asked Cecil to change the documentation to clear it up a bit but it hasn't happened yet. Anyway you exit out and run "install-i586-l" or something. then reboot and continue the installation. Hopefully somebody else will have more info. |

I really don't see what the confusion about the lirc install is. IF you need lirc and xvmc after you complete your install you run install-ix86-lx for just lirc install-ix86-l there are i686 and i586 scripts. So most likely as root you need to run the following command install-i686-l |

I mean no disrespect to you nor Cecil. You both have been very helpful in answering questions on the forum and Cecil has been especially great for putting this all together. But, what you just said is no where in the release docs. I'm referring to this page here: http://hust.la/KnoppMyth/ The part I am referring to says the following: "Then exit the frontend and pressing <CTRL><ALT><F1>. Login in as root. install-i586-x will install the i586 package with XvMC. If you have a 686 class processor substitue 5 with 6. install-i586-lx will install the i586 package with native LIRC and XvMC. If you have a 686 class processor substitue 5 with 6. install-nvidia will then install the nVidia drivers." You'll notice that there is nothing about install-i686-l. I read about that here in the forum somewhere. Again, I'm trying to be helpful not just criticizing. Maybe if I reworded it a little to include the missing option and to make it clearer Cecil would make the changes on the web pages. But even if he doesn't I thank him for all that he has done. |

I'm sure he will. I thought it was in there, because I saw the references to it, but I actually did my first install from the beta instructions for R3, and they had all the options. |
