I bought one of these http://www.irblaster.info/, and followed the instructions here to set it up http://losdos.dyndns.org:8080/public/my ... _LIRC.html. Seems to work fine.

Now I'm wondering, does anyone have the codes to control an Austar digital box?

If you are running R5C7, those instructions are now obsolete. All you should need to do is answer yes when asked during the install if you have a serial port IR blaster, select one of the available config files (since there is not an austar one selectable) and then replace the file /etc/irblaster/irblasterd.conf with your austar codes when you find them.
If you find codes that work, you should post the config file here:
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=9352
so it can be included in a future knoppmyth release.

http://lirc.sourceforge.net/remotes/
this is a site that has many config files for many different remotes. 'Austar' is not listed in the directory. check some of the codes or make sure that is the maker of your remote. my exact model isn't on there, but another from the same company worked just fine.

The next alternative is to get/build a homebrew receiver and record the codes for your remote.

Thanks. I'll give learning a go and post the codes if I can get it going...
