This seems to be a brand new board (rev 1.0, it turned out), which is probably part of the problem.
Install fails at various points in the beginning of the process depending on the options chosen. With nousb, nofirewire, noscsi, noudev, the process hung on searching for devices. Remove a no-something and it would hang earlier.

To see if I could isolate the problem to KnoppMyth, I tried booting a Knoppix live cd and it hung on two penguins (right in the beginning). I've never before met a system that Knoppix can't boot. I also tried a Ubuntu live cd with practically the same result. My guess is that very basic chipset drivers are not available in the Linux kernel (yet).
