The X server in V4R4 does not seem to support XVideo on ATI Mach 64 based cards and motherboards, so playback is pathetically jumpy & slow. I tried looking for a newer ati_drv.o, but failed, so I thought upgrading to XFree86-4.4.0 would do the trick. Sadly, it didn't. X works fine, but playback is just a big black rectangle. mythfrontend says 'Using XV port 61' instead of the usual "Not fast enough. Doesn't support Xv" message. And, of course, I now need to try and install XFree86-4.3.0 again. Haven't worked that out yet. |

Update. I got this to work. A web page somewhere told me that many Mach 64 setups don't have enough RAM to double buffer, and to set: Option "XaaNoOffscreenPixmaps" in the device section. Added that, and I get good playback. (still not perfect, but it is only a PIII 500 trying to decode a 10-15Mbit/s MPEG stream. Now, how do I move these posts to the Tier 2 section? Cecil? |
