Hi Everyone, I can't get this card to work no matter what! I spent weeks on it last year, and got nowhere. It works perfectly in WinXP, but on linux, I'm having these probs:
- it hangs on knoppmyth CD boot
I removed the card, installed Knoppmyth and re-installed the card, so...
- it hangs on startup (same spot as the boot disk, straight after autodetect finishes)
Last message was "tuner=4".
I started in single user mode and ran modconf. Selected bt8xx to load
- it hung with identical message as the startup.

So, I get from this that the hardware is having problems with the module. I fscked about with the CMOS settings to see if there was a potential conflict (of course if there was, it wouldn't work in Windoze) to no avail.

Also messed about with manual settings for the module, but no improvement.

The entire OS hangs when loading this module. I can't do ANYTHING at all but hit the reset button, which really pains me.

In the past this never happened. Last year I couldn't get the damn thing to work but the OS never froze on me.

Anyone have any ideas?

Mike Williams

ps I haven't paid my ADSL bill and thus am working from my poor addled ADHD brain, but only that "tuner=4" message feels like it could be wrong.

This is covered on the forum. There is some bug with bttv in certain versions of the kernel. They came up with a workaround that involved building a new kernel without the card installed and then installing the card. You should be able to find it by searching.

So it is. What's worse is I'd read it but not the bit after "now listen carefully..." :)

Cheers

Mike

ps it still qualifies for this tier since it freezes the installation CD, right?

More for Tier2 as it does work (I have a clone Twinhan) just needs a bit of frigging around.

And it will probably work with the next release without all this kernel hoopla, so its definately not "hardware to avoid".

That would be nice, then I can drop the kernel rebuild from my script and have my set up installed in under an hour instaed of over 2. :D

Well 2.6.13 has finally been released (4 hrs ago) so I may be in the same boat as you. I just hosed my system on the weekend by doing a hard reset (it locked up when I was fiddling with video drivers) and the disk was corrupted, so I just had to do a reinstall including rebuild the kernel.

Although I havent heard from cesman for a while and he hasnt posted for for 5 days. I hope he's alright.
