First off, this forum has proved very helpful in getting my mythbox running. Hats off to knoppmyth and to everyone who posts here.

Background- I've run the transcode process- both manually and automatically- and now have XX_XXX.nuv and XX_XXX.nuv.tmp files in my /myth/tv folder. The XX_XXX.nuv.tmp files are the smaller, transcoded files I'd like to keep and have linked through to my "Watch Recordings" screen.

Question- The docs at myth.org suggest that "Once the transcode is complete, mythbackend will replace the old file with the new as soon as it is no longer in use." Does this happen in the DB or the FS? Can I safely rm the larger .nuv's?

Just trying to get a feel for the whole transcode process- any help is greatly appreciated.

BTW- I've spent many hours installing, reinstalling, configuring and tweaking to get a salvaged 533mhz Celeron with a gifted pvr250 to a usable level. I'm in a $0, "proof of concept" trial before sinking real money into the project. But, with 190MB RAM a 20GB HD and some tweaking on the capture settings (no tv out, just a 19" monitor), the little stinker is almost usable- although damn near 100% CPU utilization watching live TV.
