I have a weird problem that I've been investigating for several weeks now, to no avail. I never really used the weather center in Myth much, but I had checked it a few times and it was always working. Then I installed DansGuardian on my firewall and about the same time, the weather info center stopped retrieving the weather. I'm not sure if the two are related because I didn't check the weather often enough to notice.
I'm using R4V5
Here's what happens:
1. I go into the info center and into weather
2. after just a few seconds (3 or 4), I receive a dialog box saying that it timed out after 20 seconds and do I want to try again with a longer timeout.
3. If I do, the timeout box instantly pops up again saying it timed out after 40-some seconds.
4. Trying a longer timeout again, it instantly pops up saying it timed out after 67 seconds.
5. This can go on and on until eventually I give up at a reported timeout of 5000+ seconds. Keep in mind, this whole process takes about 30 seconds, not the 5000 I'm being told.
6. Weather information DOES show up in MythWeb
Here's what I've done:
1. I've disabled dansguardian filtering for the IP address that my myth box uses, so all traffic is unfiltered by it. This does not solve the problem.
2. Lots and lots of Internet searching, including this forum. It doesn't seem that many people get timeout errors in MythWeather at all, and even fewer with my symptoms (immediate timeouts ad naseum)
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance

I'm having the same problem as well. I suspect other people are having this problem also, but they just don't care that much since MythWeather isn't such a big deal to a lot of people.
I don't have any firewall on my network except for the one that is part of my broadband router/hub. It isn't really set to block much at specific ports and my box can download the program guide and access the internet (apt-get and also through mozilla), so I don't suspect this is a port problem. It happened to me when I tried to select my city from the list and I don't think it's able to download listings for my city--but possibly only nearby cities or something.
It waits like three milliseconds and tells me that the 20 second timeout has been reached and then gives me options to increase the timeout or cancel out of MythWeather. It worked before I changed my city from Fontana CA (or whatever the the default was) to Berkeley. I can't get to the screen to change my city because it goes on a timeout rampage like you mentioned. I've gotten it up to like 52,000 seconds or something ridiculous for the timeout and it still only waits like 3 milliseconds so I eventually just have to cancel out of the dialog box (which also closes MythWeather) and I'll never be able to change the city for my weather again unless there is some secret trick to reset mythweather (without resetting everything else in my configuration since I don't want to reconfigure everything else).
You're not alone with the "MythWeather on the Rampage" problem. The timeout thing happens to me in the MythWeather configuration window, also, so I really can't change my city ever again through the interface.

What I've done to fix my MythWeather is to change the speed setting in the setup. I can't remember offhand what it was called, but I changed it to 1(high speed) to just 2. That will allow it to connect after 3-4 seconds it takes to start the program. It's still slow, but at least its usable.

Same problems on my box. Tried your suggestion, tjimenez, same thing... are we sure they didn't change something on their end?
