Hi,

Being the newbie to MythTV and Linux at large, I went ahead to put up my first HTPC recently and started installing KnoppMyth. Installation was a breeze with the excellent work done to this distro and the instruction available on the wiki pages. However, I did had many other setup problem/questions and needed guidance from the group.

(1) I did a alsa_init and then alsamixer to unmute all channels but I still couldn't get a sound out when inserting audio CD into my DVD-Writer. Is there any sound file / command within the distro to test the sound card setup?

(2) I am not able to get any channels from my WinTV Express (bt878 based) card. I did not see any channel tunning function in MythTV screen apart from the fine tunning. I am assuming MythTV setup was doing the tunning at the background. I would like to know how do I re-do the tunning manually if no channel was shown up?

BTW, my hardware spec:
MSI MegaPC 180 (nForce2 chipset with integrated graphic n sound)
Athlon XP 2600+
512 MB Ram
WinTV Express (bt878 based, mono and no radio)

And also, I live in Singapore where XMLTV is not available readily, and MythTV setup doesn;t let me choose to skip this step. So, I have choosen Australia (and China on 2nd try) for it. Not sure if this is the problem which cause the channels not showing.

Thanks.

There is no manual tune in mythtv. you have to get the xmltv setup right. you can do that manually. I've never done it, but there are some threads on the forum about it.

Actually you can enter channel frequencies manually. If you're in the US you don't need to as they are included in the xmltv data, so a lot of the HOWTOs ignore this option.

First you need to use xawtv to search for all the channels, then edit the xawtv config to include only the channels you want.

Then you can import the xawtv channels into myth with this command.
Code:
mythfilldatabase --xawchannels is an option if you have used xawtv to fine-tune your channels and would like to import the fine tuning offsets into MythTV.

I think this should work if you don't have access to a local xmltv service.

Being in Australia myself, I have access to xmltv listings but they don't include the channel frequencies. When I ran mythfilldatabase for the first time the channels were loaded to mythtv-setup but actual detail for each channel were blank. So then I just had to go into each channel and manually fill in the blanks.

Hi there,

Did you ever get the iR/remote in your Mega PC to work with Myth ? I'm trying to figure this out...

Either way, would you kindly let me know through this forum, or by email at terry.mark@gmail.com ?

thanks,
terry
