Hi,
I'm pulling my hair out over this. I'm ripping all my dvds to ISOs minus menus/extras/extraneous sound options and subtitles to create a video library. Each ISO contains anywhere from 3 to 5 VOBs with no encryption and the region code opened to all.

I have no problem playing any movie from start to finish, but I can't navigate past the first 40 minutes or so without getting a "error reading NAV packet" message. I believe my problem is that it's not reading all of the VOBs from the outset, as seen here:

libdvdcss debug: opening target `/myth/video/movie/One Flew Over The
Cuckoos Nest.iso'
libdvdcss debug: using libc for access
libdvdcss debug: using CSS key cache dir:
/home/mythtv/.dvdcss//VIDEO_DVD#2005031522301600/
libdvdcss error: failed opening raw device, continuing

libdvdread: Attempting to retrieve all CSS keys
libdvdread: This can take a _long_ time, please be patient

libdvdread: Get key for /VIDEO_TS/VTS_01_1.VOB at 0x00000145
libdvdcss debug: cracking title key
libdvdcss debug: end of title reached
libdvdcss debug: 0 of 0 attempts successful, 0 of 2000 blocks scrambled
libdvdcss debug: file was unscrambled
libdvdcss debug: title key is 00:00:00:00:00
libdvdcss debug: unencrypted title
libdvdread: Elapsed time 0
libdvdread: Found 1 VTS's
libdvdread: Elapsed time 0

It appears as if it's only reading the first VOB. Since the movie plays from start to finish and the nav bar reflects the full time of the movie, I'm assuming that xine actually sees all the files.

I got the same behavior with VLC as well and also tried mounting the ISO as a loopback device without any difference. I've tried a few players in Windows and all is fine, no navigation problems. I've tried messing around with the css key setting in the input section of xine to no avail.

Am I missing something stupid? Is this a problem with libdvdnav, read, or css?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Dave

I got it working, thought I don't understand why the solution works. I copied the files from an .iso into a regular directory and it now reads the keys of all of the VOBs. I have no clue why this would work over mounting the .iso via the loopback device. Any insight would be appreciated for my own personal gratification.

So, now I keep each movie in it's own directory. I have null size dummy files with .iso extensions so that mythtv has something to see to read into the database. My video player setting calls a script which strips off the .iso and uses the rest of the file name to get to the directory where that particular movie is when launching xine. At some point I'll probably try and recreate the .isos, because I'm sure the original problem had to be how my ripper was creating them.

The only thing still wonky is that chapter breaks and subtitles, which worked previously when it was only reading the first VOB, have now quit functioning. I'll work on that later.
