I just installed KnoppMyth and I am trying to understand the very basics. I have a couple of questions that will make things a bit clearer for me:

Once you have gone thru the automatic setup, how do you go back and change the choices you made during setup ? There doesn't seem to be a menu function for this and KnoppMyth doesn't like to let you outside it's menu structure to do a -configure. Surely there must be a way to change the initial setup options without going thru a re-install or manually editing configuration files ....

How does KnoppMyth handle time sync - should I set up a cron job to correct the system time on a weekly basis or does KnoppMyth do some time correcting automatically ?

Do I need to download new TV listings manually or is there some way of automatically updating the listings ? I am hoping to get to a point where I just tell KnoppMyth to record all episodes of my favorite show and it does so without human intervention.

Jens

1. You don't (you shouldn't have to...). If you'd state what it is you're trying to reconfigure, we could tell you hat to do.

2. It doesn't. If you search here and on the wiki, you'll find how to do this.

3. Handled automatically.

Thanks for the help.
1) I originally had problems with only seeing static but someone had pity on me and pointed out that tuner=2 should be removed which got me going. I am thinking more for down the line when I want to set up one box as a backend and one as a frontend. There are tons of setups that are not accessible other than (apparently) config files. Having said that, now that I have found this forum, I feel much more comfortable about getting my installation going and I will just ask when the time comes.

2) Found it - great instructions

3) Cool

Thanks again ... it was touch and go for a while with my KnoppMyth install. I had thoughts about going to a windows box. Thank God I don't have to :)

1. Rerunning the original configure script has nothing to do with tuner configuration. Nor does it have to do with setting up a remote frontend. A lot of info is here and on the wiki.

2. 8)

3. 8)

1) Being a relative noob to linux and mythtv myself, I think I know what you are asking... I gather you are trying to get to the screen that allows you to configure the backend.

If you are in the frontend, hit escape and exit out of it. You will then be at a windows manager (X i think), Right click and select Applications->Shells->Bash.

You can re-run the initial (backend) configuration by typing mythtv-setup. If that is wrong, it might be mythbackend-setup or something else along those lines (i'm not in front of tha box at the moment, so I can't double check).
