All,

it appears that the lynch pin in the XvMC saga revolves around a new config file that nVidia thoughtfully put into the /etc/X11 folder. To get XvMC to work (in such a state as it is), I did the following:

1) su
2)
Code:
nano /etc/X11/XvMCConfig

3) Remove the only line in the file and replace it with:
Code:
/usr/X11R6/lib/libXvMCNVIDIA_dynamic.so.1

4) Write and close the file
5) Restart gdm
Code:
/etc/init.d/gdm restart

6) Enable XvMC in myth under Setup>TV>Playback screen 4 or 5.

For me this got rid of the "unable to initialize video" message with XvMC enabled. The picture it is outputting now is gorgeous. Seems to be dealing with interlacing fairly well.

Couple of caveats:
1) There may be a more "correct" library to link to in /usr/X11R6/lib/. This one made sense at the time and seems to work ok.
2) This doesn't fix the various problems that currently exist with XvMC. For example, fast forward/rewind occassionally causes stuttering for 1-3 seconds.
3) As always, YMMV.

It is always the little things one forgets... Corrected for next release. The install-nvidia script will take care of this.

I think we all can forgive your oversight :)

As always, thanks for your efforts.
