Hi,

Is MythTV always supposed to pre-scale the images prior to running? I had read that it was only supposed to happen on a resolution change. I have made sure /home/mythtv/.mythtv is world writable...

Cheers, Graham

there are a couple of very in depth discussions on this very issue, and the answer is no it is not suppose to prescale every time, and I believe the resolution was some sort of permissions issue.

Mine pre-scales everytime, too. It's not supposed to do this?

Did a quick search for "prescale" but didn't come up with much. URL?

Here is one version of the problem we've seen in the past:

I swear that there is a permissions related one, but I can't find the thread...

the topic you linked does have which dir the cache is stored in that one could check permissions on.

Argh.

Set permissions to 777 on "themecache" directory and "G.A.N.T..1027.768" directory as user mythtv. Still prescaling. :(

Did a "touch" on all files and folders in themecache. Still prescaling.

Did I do something wrong?

I know I have done the same and it still pre-scales each time.

I don't bother posting until I have searched and tried previous suggestions :D I had already come across the thread mentioned by tjc...

Just to clarify, the problem is when it does the "slow" re-scaling every time you launch mythfrontend (as if you'd changed resolutions).

I see the "rescaling" progress bars every time I start mythfrontend, but it goes by very quickly. It does still appear, though.

Hmm, I thought that it was only supposed to do the 'Pre-scaling...' (at all) if the resolution had changed...

Mine doesn't always take a long time but it does always show...

Can someone who knows clarify the situation please?

well I don't reboot my box enough to really know if it does prescale every time, but I can tell you if it does it goes fast enough that a blink will make you miss it.
