I have never bothered to setup transcoding as I never wanted any loss of quality. Is it possible with any script to just take the commercials out of the files produced by a 350 without reencoding?

In a dream world I would like to:
1) Record and have commflag run as usual
2) Manually get in there and edit the cutlist when required
3) Run the magic command
4) Have the show going forwards in the EXACT quality as it was.

Thanks for any tips.

1) Can be configged in mythfrontend setup somewheres
2) Read the mythtv docs, there are keystrokes to edit cutlists (E puts recording in edit mode, Z loads the cutlist, C unloads it. You can use keys to tweak the cutlist)
3) You don't have to transcode, Just load the file in avidemux2

Here' s what I do:

Leave the recordings from my pvr350/150 in mpeg2
load the recordings on my remote linux desktop using samba and avidemux2
cut out the commercials
save the demuxed audio & video as mpeg-2 only
remix them together with mplex
done
burn 'em to dvds using qdvdauthor is needed

There is some new code in the SVN version of mythtv that allows lossless mpeg2 transcoding to cut out commercials and fix up any errors.

Hopefully mythtv 0.19 is released some time soon.

0.19... I guess I will just wait until then. I really don't see why there needs to be such a long time between releases. 8 months+ for an open source app. I guess there is such a large number of people that run the svn version the push for stable/actual releases isn't really there. Oh well. c'est la.

hari_seldon99, is avidmux2 lossless? Have never used it.

Funny, I didn't see your name anywhere in the mythtv-devel list. Dont ya just love people that complain about something (a free something) but dont contribute to make it better? If you aren't helping then you dont have a right to complain about release times. Especially on such a huge change as .18 to .19.

A lot of the Users list is svn installs, that's all I am saying. My take on that is that the time is so long it forces people off the stable releases.

But you are 100% correct, and I mean no disrespect to those actively contributing.
