Ok, first of all, I have done my homework here. I have read every related post on the board and the Wiki as well as done extensive google searching, so dont blast me on this one. I am still having problems with the fonts displayed on my tv. I have changed resolutions, changed DisplaySize in XF86Config-4, and nothing works. If my program guide fonts are the right size, then my setup menus are way too big. If I set my setup menus are the right size, then my program guide fonts are way too small. Why cant I have them both be the right size?

Here is some helpful info on my setup:
PVR-350
GF4 MX440 (tv-out through this, not the tuner card)
27" tv
DisplaySize is set to '271 204'
resolution is 800x600 currently

With these settings, all of my fonts are readable except when i try to enter the setup menus (ie. Appearance) The fonts are so big that I can only see a few options and cant see the Back, Next, and Cancel buttons at the bottom. Kinda renders my setup options useless if I cant see them. Can anyone please help?

Two suggestons:

1. You "displaysize" should be a 4:3 ratio, so change the "271" to "272". (204 / 3 * 4 = 272).

2. Somewhere in settings you can change the fontsize used for varous menus. There are 3 different fontsizes used and you get to select the fontsize used for each scenario. I think it's in settings->appearances. Find that screen and reduce the various font sizes.

Hi, I've got exactly the same problem, and it's driving me nuts. My screen is a 23" widescreen samsung (PAL, uk) that can hande HD (1360x768 native). It treats the display as an 800x600 (solve that one later). I think it might be because of the aspect ratio as it's 16:9, but the fonts might be treating it like 4:3. The mythtv menus only show the tops of the characters.

Might this be solved by me tweaking XF86Config-4 too? If that's the case I might need a bit of advice about what the DisplaySize setting should be. Can anyone help?

Hi.

Ok, solved my problem, so here's what I did. Yes, the answer was already on this site, but I couldn't search for it easily...

Problem: Huge fonts on my myth menus. Everything seems to work, but all the text for the menu options out of kilter (all you can see is the tops of the letters etc.). The screen is a widescreen tv (23 inch samsung, HD, PAL, uk, bought from richer sounds last week). The reason it's going wrong is that there seems to be an assumption about the aspect ratio of the screen, and this is easily remedied.

Solution: Change /etc/X11/XF86Config-4. First of all get the precise width and height of your SCREEN in millimeters (eg 500mm wide, 280mm high, use a tape measure if you have to), then add a (possibly new entry) 'DisplaySize' entry to the 'Monitor' section, for example:

DisplaySize 500 280

Then restart X (eg back to command line, or simply reboot the whole system!), and you should be in business.

I hope I've thrown enough relevant keywords in there for the next person ...
