As per the topic, what I hope is an easy question ... but one that wasn't spelled out anywhere when I searched for MythBurn resolution.

I've successfully burned a recorded program to DVD using MythBurn, but the picture only fills two thirds of the screen width and is stretched vertically. I presume that this is because my recording resolution is not a standard DVD resolution.

What resolution should I be recording at if I want to be able to watch recordings on TV-out in addition to burning them to DVD?

Can someone point me to a post explaining how to transcode existing recordings to use a new DVD-supported resolution?

If your DVD player is finicky about this, 720x480 is the problem resolution for NTSC. Edit your recording profiles to get this. The default 480x480 "just works" with many players, like my low end Panasonic (S27), either because it the standard resolution for VCDs or because the engineers at Panasonic decided it was just as easy to make it play whatever resolution it found and scale the output appropriately.

BTW - Highly recommended. If the computer can read the disk, so will the Panasonic player. Bought one for the folks too. Eats anything from commercial DVDs to photo CDs and "does the right thing".
