Thanks! here is what I did

1. pulled the old DVD ROM out and replaced it with a DVD r/w i had around the house.

2. pulled the cable on the CD r/w

3. pulled the cable on the floppy drive while i was in there

4. symlink to dev/hdc

and every thing worked fine!

Second hard drive is last thing to get going and am having probs with that but will start new thread! :P

Hi
From your post:
hdc: Compaq dvd-rom DV-5700B, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive
hdd: TDK CDRW2500B, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive

That looks like two dvd read-only-memory drives ... If you have a dvd rw and may require the burn option, then yes, swap it out, put in only one (no confusion) and the system should pick it up. Unless you really climb in and stir things up with a big stick there is rarely the need for a re-install.

Actually, if you have done an auto install to begin, the most you would ever really need to do is an auto upgrade (do a backup first) and that would be to move to a new version of KM in the future if you wanted to do so.
