Is there any advantage to upgrading the ivtv from 0.7.0 to the latest to improve the picture from the PVR-150 capture card? If so, are the instructions on this page "Compile IVTV" still correct?

Yes and yes, see the ivtv change summary for details. There are even notes on that wiki page about which steps to do.

I assume I should use ivtv 0.7.1, since it is the latest one... The wiki says, 0.4.6, apparently an older version...

Also, the md5sum
Code:
ffed594f0edea15de8c19cfd13bc4adf  /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/v4l-pvrusb2-24xxx-01.fw
is not the same as the wiki... I am guessing is a later file...

The second paragraph says:
Quote:
Substituting the appropriate versions these instructions work for upgrading R5D1 to 0.7.1, however, with 0.7.1 you must skip step 4. Unless the recommended firmware changes, you should only need to do steps 1, 2, 3, and 10. Also remember that 0.7.1 is only compatible with kernel 2.6.17. - tjc

Since the second sentence of the first paragraph says:
Quote:
If you want to use an older or newer ivtv driver, just substitute it's version for "0.4.6" below.

There should be very little ambiguity about what substitutions need to be made.

On the firmware checksums, the page tells you:
Quote:
Note that if you follow a recommendation on the IVTV Firmware page to use a newer version, the MD5 sums may be different.

The checksums for the newer firmware used in R5D1 match the newer ones posted on the ivtv webpages.

The instructions have not been rewritten for R5D1, since 1) I deemed it more important for the moment that they be as clear as possible for the more complicated case facing users of older versions, 2) the notes in the first and second paragraph have been sufficient for most folks, and 3) frankly I thought we'd be on the 2.6.18 kernel and the 0.8.0 drivers by now.
