I have a non encrypted DVD that I converted to an .iso file via Nero on Win XP. I sent the iso to my mythbox via wifi and it shows up in the directory fine.

The two questions I have are

First, the menu functions of the iso files do not work at all. I thought an iso would look and work just like a DVD.

Second, when I do get the movie to play, I do not get any sound.

I am using R5D1 on a compaq 1ghz machine with 512K ram. player is Xine and I am accessing through the remote on a PVR 250 (silver remote)

The sound issue might be a codec problem. What version of Mythtv do you have, and have you installed any codec updates?

Try playing it with mplayer just to see if sound works. (I'm assuming you get sound when you play recordings.)

An iso is an image of the dvd, but each player handles it differently. I believe I read that mythtv .20 will play dvd files directly and skip a lot of the annoying features of dvds such as the forced previews, etc.

I use mplayer. It's ok, but it leaves out some of functionality that my dvd player has. I'm still a relative newbie though. Perhaps someone else here has better info.

I am using R5D1. Yes I do get sound on other things...mp3, mpeg2 VOB files etc. I can see the iso file and the video plays fine but I can not use any of the menus.

Ok, that's not what I suggested. My concern is that Xine doesn't have the right codec for that particular iso file.

Try playing it with mplayer on the mythtv box and see if you get sound.

Also, does it play ok on other machines?

I don't know too much about xine/mplayer and whether they like to run menus, so I didn't go into that.

I'm running R5D1 and I too can't seem to interact with the menus (when using Media Library->Watch Videos. Matter of fact I can't get the DVD to start. It sits at the root menu with the "cursor" at play. Sound is fine, its actually Winnie the Pooh ABCs. The DVD player using xine vice mplayer works fine. This happens for a number of DVDs, Finding Nemo, etc.

I just upgraded my MPlayer to

MPlayer 1.0rc1-3.4.4 (C) 2000-2006 MPlayer Team
CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 2800+ (Family: 15, Model: 12, Stepping: 0)
CPUflags: MMX: 1 MMX2: 1 3DNow: 1 3DNow2: 1 SSE: 1 SSE2: 1
Compiled for x86 CPU with extensions: MMX MMX2 3DNow 3DNowEx SSE SSE2

I just ran /usr/local/bin/lirc-reconfig.sh to try out my new Hauppage PVR 250 Grey remote to see if that could get'm to play. Different buttons work in both xine for optical disks vs mplayer for ripped ISO files.

Correction, the 250 remote is not the "grey" remote its the 350 remote also. It has 4 colored buttons along the bottom.
