I'm not having any luck with viewing DIVX contained in Nuppelvideo on my XBMC. I understand that xbmc relies on mplayer for everything and that the xbox mplayer version is usually several releases behind the official mplayer. But having tried these files on a SVN release mplayer I compiled on my linux box, they still don't play.

So my question is this ......... is there a mplayer.dll floating around that will do mpeg4 nuv? If there isn't, does anyone have a patch for mplayer that will add mpeg4 nuv support?

Thanks,
Ben

I don't have a direct link to it, but look at the forums on SorceForge for XBMCMythTV. As I recall someone in there compiled an MPlayer.dll that does what you're looking for and put it on their ftp.

I don't have a URL handy either, I can look when I'm back at home. But I can verify that there is an mplayer.dll out there that works. I had it installed back in the past, but have stopped transcoded to mpg4 so no longer need it.

I can't remember why, but there was a downside to it, there was something that it didn't handle the way the default mplayer file works.....

Let me dig up and see what i can find at home.

Thanks rando. Here's the URL for the mplayer.dll I already tried:

http://www.reza.net/xbmc

I also found this URL recently and will try it when I'm back home after the Turkey Day weekend:

http://www.techknowpro.com/xbmcmythtv/xbmcmythtv-mplayer.rar

If you know of any more, I'd really appreciate trying them out too.

After doing further research, the sourceforge site also had this patch:

http://www.cse.sc.edu/~oldendic/mythtv/mplayer-0.90pre10+mythtv.patch

If all else fails, I will dust off my windows box and try to apply the patch to the latest mplayer. Hopefully the code hasn't change too much.

Just checked my bookmarks, and it's the first one you linked. Odd that it didn't play your mpg4 encoded stuff as it played those fine for me.

I'm trying to remember why I didn't stay with it, I think it had something to do with the auto-commercial skipping not working, or something along those lines. I really don't recall what it was though for sure.

Too bad it didn't work for you.

I use the Plextor MPEG4 box so it's probably a different flavor of MPEG4(DivX) then the folks who transcode mpeg2.

Ah, yes that very likely could be what's happening here.

Success!!! The second url worked! After troubleshooting Autonegotiation problems, I'm actually watching my recorded programs on my Xbox.

No LiveTV
Jumping Ahead/Back Iffy
Time Remaining totally wrong
and an occasional lockup

Don't care ..... I'm really happy.

Thanks everyone for the help
