My other ditros that I use this card in all detect it right out of the box. the only gui I have ever really used is gnome and I have messed with kde just a bit some I am completely lost with this one. thanks for any help you can give.

Is this a pcmcia card? If so you'll have to install pcmciautils which can be done with aptitude. This is dependant on the kind of card you have. I had to install it on mine. Not sure about your specific card. Only do that if knoppmyth didn't already load the modules correctly. Once modules are installing and loading properly then edit your /etc/network/interfaces file and add lines like this.
Code:
allow-hotplug eth2
iface eth2 inet dhcp
        wireless-mode managed
        wireless-essid (essid)
        wireless-channel (channel number)
wireless-key (key if you have it encrypted)

Replace eth2 with your interface of course. There are other possibilities too though. Look around just in the man files or doc files for some help too. Thats how I figured it out.
