With Knoppmyth, how would I be able to make an image (bootable) of my Linux drive after myth is installed and I get everything set? I would like to do this for a backup and to make it easier to try new things. This would allow me to test new setups, but return my system to usable status a the end of the day. I see some options in the myth setup settings, but I don't see anything that says image drive.

Thanks for your input..

I think this is beyond the scope of KM. I'm sure it can be done. Try googling for this.

It can be done, check out this howto using Mondo.

Or you could use a tool like Symantec Ghost or Ghost for Linux, keep in mind with Ghost you have to repair lilo to make it bootable after an image.

Interesting... sorry, maybe I didn't ask my questions correctly. Let me make some points. I see item to back up KM in the menu setting, and I see item to copy to dvd, but I don't see item that backs up your KM system (I am not sure I understand exactly what is it doing). My issue is that for a lot of people the install process consists of many steps, upgrades, fixes etc. And if you try to upgrade something, you could take your system down for days. I would think there would be an options (or plugin) avaliable for KM to image you KM install after you have it all set up. Of course you couldn't take a boat load of movies, you might have to burn them or something before hand.

So, maybe I should of asked, how to back up my installation to protect it after I get KM set up and working on a machine? And how would I restore it?

Maybe with the burning item I saw in he menu, I would burn certain directories to a dvd or CD (but I wouldn't know which ones), and then if I need to restore, I would reinstall KM and then replace those directories.

Hopefully this makes sense, and hopefully I rescoped this to KM.

Thanks,
