I'm not very familiar with the chipset but it sounds like the hardware is accelerating MPEG-2 (tv shows) but not MPEG-4 (avi is a container for many formats but MPEG-4 or variants are common).

I think you're absolutely right. And after my previous post I remembered that the M10000-board has a CLE266 chipset which boosts mpeg2 performance. CN400 also boosts mpeg2 performance but not mpeg4.

It would be nice to know if there ever came a "solution" ?[/quote]
