I've recorded several movies off of one of the local movie channels but at the time did not stick them in their own recording group. I've since created a recording group titled movies, but am not sure how to move my recordings.
I don't see anything in the Mythfrontend that will allow me to do this, so assumed I would need to manipulate the database manually. I do have webmin up and running, is this a tool that will let me make the changes necesarry? What do I need to change?

You actually should be able to do this from the menus on the "Recordings" list. Selecting a recording and hitting "I" (or right arrow if you have the arrow accelerators turned on) should get you started, what you're looking for is under "Storage options".

What does setting their recording group do? How do you create new groups? Would this allow me to make a Movies folder and put all movies in that one folder?

It doesn't actually move the recorded file into a different folder on the backend, but it lets you sort it by group.
I have a group for 'Main floor' a group for "movies' a group for "bill" (that's me) and one for "alana" (my fiance).
I can set the front end to only display recordings that belong to a specific group, if we know we want to watch a movie, we flip over to movies, and it won't show us all our various recorded shows. Main floor is the group her parents use, I have it setup to be the default group on their frontend PC so they don't have to wade through all of my 'crap' in order to find something that interests them.
Groups are somewhere under the storage options if I recall, I don't have access to a frontend machine at the moment so can't look it up. Poke around a bit, see if you can find it, if not reply back and I'll get you the full path later.

I haven't had a chance to poke around, but I've dug through the menus previously an' didn't find anything like what you mentioned, so I'd appreciate if you posted the info. TIA.

No problem, I'll get you the specifics when I get home later tonight. I'm still running R5D1 (as are you according to your signature) so it should be the same for you as it is for me, not sure if they've moved it in later releases or not.

Sorry about the delay.....
I'm using R5D1, so these directions apply for this version (but may not be exact for other versions)
On your frontend:
Go into your 'Manage Recordings' section, and then select 'Upcoming Recordings' arrow down to one of your upcoming recordings and hit enter, then select 'Edit Options' and from there select 'Storage Options'. The second item on this page should be "Store in the "something" recording group" This is where I created all my recording groups, one for me, my fiance, her parents, and one for movies. Create a new group and set your recording to store in it.
From here you can start to sort your shows into different categories and keep things a bit more organized. It makes life a lot easier in our house, that's for sure.

Neat. I didn't know you could do that. I'll definately have to check it out.

Tried this over the wknd and it worked great. I was able to move all the movies that were cluttering up my list into their own area. Thanks for the info!
